Model question 05

Part A : reading Test (50 Marks)
Read the passage. Then answer the questions below.

Eid is certainly the biggest religious festival for the Muslims in Bangladesh. Eid brings great happiness for them. Its meaning is also happiness. All the year round people eagerly wait for this day with great enthusiasm. So, most people living outside their home feel a great urge to return to their parental homes to share the joy with their dear and near ones. Consequently, a mad rush is seen in the buses, trains or launches for the home- bound people. Accidents often follow such risky journeys and prove fatal to many a life.
However, there cannot at all lessen their ardent desire to meet or get united with their family, in- laws, friends etc. what is the reason behind this mad and seriously risky rush? It is sheer spiritual bond among them- the pull of the roots. Like a tree, human beings have also roots, these roots are not visible or seen in concrete shape.
These invisible roots act as a great unifying force among the family members, friends, neighbors, in-laws etc. in that sense our roots comprise our families. Land of birth, relatives,. Our culture, traditions or surroundings etc. and there is always a pulling action on the pan or these roots. These roots create or develop our identity. What we are now is nothing but their contribution or production. So, if we lose bond, we will become detached from root. Human beings having no roots or contexts are devoid of identity. They have no values, humanity and social responsibilities.
These people have no knowledge of their identity and have no destination to reach. They often feel empty and lost. A society or nation can hardly expect to be benefited from them.
